Activities and programs in Winter

Mariazell is a well known winter sport destination. Mariazeller Land with it's varied levels of ski tracks are ideal for every family member and the ski areas are well maintained throughout the winter season.

Due to the snow cannons the snow supply is guaranteed during the whole winter season. At the foot and at the top of the ski lift, you can find ski schools for adults and for children as well.

You can also find one of the longest and most well built sleigh courses in Styria, here you can slide down from the side of the mountain arriving at the Mariazell valley below with amazing speed. For cross-country skiers there are many courses that will serve their appetite here for a good work-out. Among the other winter activities that visitors always like to do also is skating ring, the horse sleighs and the ice fishing on Erlaufsee.

The Mariazell is not only a ski centre, it has many other entertainment facilities. You will find pools to swim in, sauna, fitness centre and squash in Mariazell also. You can find a pool, sauna, fitness centre and squash.

Ski tracks of the area

The Mariazeller Bürgeralpe (868 to 1267 meters above sea level) offers great fun in the snow for the whole family. Skiers have their choice of eight runs, eleven kilometers in length with all difficulty levels to choose from, tested and awarded the Styrian seal of quality for ski slopes. Great ascents are assured by a gondola lift, plus two quad chair-lifts, one t-bar and one button lift. An illuminated toboggan run, Kinder Skiland with a magic carpet and the Funpark for snowboarders are the icing on the cake of this wintertime fun.

With an incline of 43%, the steep slope is one of the most selectively groomed and non-groomed slopes in the Alpine foothills. The new seven kilometer route circumventing the steep slope is the longest family run in eastern Austria.

Winter in Mariazeller Land has so many different faces. Over 70 km of cross-country skiing trails draw athletic and recreational skiers alike. Everyone enjoys gliding along and exploring this magnificent countryside. The trails are well groomed, as attested to by the Styrian seal of quality awarded to them. If you prefer barreling down the mountain on two metal rails, you won't want to miss the illuminated sledding run on the Mariazeller Bürgeralpe.
